Introduction
We had the opportunity to introduce UPI, an instant real-time payment method that enables interbank peer-to-peer (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions, in MyJio. As part of a two-person design team, we were tasked with designing the UPI app from scratch.
Our primary objectives for the project were to create a design that was both user-friendly and secure.

We adopted a phased approach to launch the UPI app in MyJio, starting with those states having a low user base, and gradually expanding to other regions to ensure a smooth user experience. This allowed us to closely monitor the app’s performance, swiftly address any user issues, and optimise the design for a great user experience. 
Within just 20 days of initial launch, we were able to successfully expand a pan India launch, achieving a broad user base in record time.
To achieve our target of acquiring and retaining users, we adopted a design approach that prioritised continuous iteration and user feedback. By carefully monitoring user behaviour and preferences, we designed a clean and intuitive interface that delivered the necessary features and functionalities without cluttering the app.
This strategy proved effective, as we reached 10 million users within the first year of app launch, a testament to our design efforts and dedication to user satisfaction.

Apart from competitive analysis & benchmarking, I collaborated with my colleague to perform affinity mapping on the user interview recordings, consolidating the pain points we discovered. Through this process, we categorised these issues based on shared themes and platform features.

Conclusion
As a designer, the journey of creating MyJio's UPI app has been a rewarding & challenging one. Our aim was to design an app that prioritised user needs, security, and seamless functionality. We conducted comprehensive research, competitive analysis and user testing to create a design that offers a smooth and secure mobile payment experience. Our collaboration with the development team was instrumental in achieving a successful launch. Post launch, we continue building on the success, by further refining and enhancing the app's features and functionalities.
